How to install Talend Open Studio for Data Integration (Version 6.4.1) [ETL tool]

If you are looking for ETL tool, Talend Open Studio for Data Integration is a great product. If you need to get data from other systems or Internet and transform it, then load it into database (data warehouse), this tool is highly recommended.

Since Talend provides so many useful ETL components, you just need to use them and can build an application.

let's install Talend Open Studio for Data Integration (Free) First off, please access the following Talend website.

Download Talend Open Studio for Data Integration

Click the "Downloads" button on the top menu. (Red circled in the following image)


When you clicked the "Downloads" button, you will be able to choose enterprise edition or free edition. Since we will install free edition, please go to "Download Free Talend Products" section (following image) and click "DOWNLOAD FREE TOOL" button in "Data Integration".

Then, you will be redirected to the following page, click "DOWNLOAD FREE TOOL" button.

You will be redirected to the following page and software download will be started at the same time. In this article, we don't download an user guide. If you need it, please register your information and get the user guide.

Once the download finished, you can get "TOS_DI-20170623_1246-V6.4.1.zip" file in your computer. File name may be a different in near future.

Extract ZIp file and launch Talend application

In order to extract the ZIP file, let's create "C:\TalendSoftware\" directory and extract the ZIP file into the directory. Once the ZIP file is extracted, you should be able to see the following two files.

  • TOS_DI-win-x86_64.exe (64 bits OS)
  • TOS_DI-win32-x86.exe (32 bits OS)

If your computer is 64 bits OS, please create a shortcut on your desktop (TOS_DI-win-x86_64.exe). If your computer is 32 bits OS, please create a shortcut on your desktop (TOS_DI-win32-x86.exe).

Once you created the desktop shortcut, double-click the shortcut. The Talend Open Studio for Data Integration will be started, then you will see the following screen. Click "Agree" button.


You will get the following project creation page. Please make sure "Create a new project" is selected and project name is "Local_Project". Click "Finish" button.



Talend creates a project, then quick tour will be started. Please follow the instruction or click "CLOSE" button.



Install third-party libraries

Once quick tour finished, it asks whether third-party library installation page. If not, please select "Install Additional Packages..." as the following image.



Third-party libraries should be install otherwise you will miss some great features. Click the following two check boxes and click "Finish" button as the following image.



You will be asked to agree the software license as the following image, click "I accept the terms of the selected license agreement" and click "Accept all" button.




As the following image, third-party library installation will be started in background. Please wait until it finishes. The installation time may depend on your Internet connection speed.



The installation finished, but I will explain how to create a job in Talend Open Studio for Data Integration in other articles.
